This is a 5 light Art Deco slip shade chandelier made by Lincoln Manu

facturing, circa 1920. This light fixture has a diameter of 20″ and hangs 34″ from the ceiling (measuring to the bottom of the decorative finial). The fixture frame is aluminum with a polychrome finish in dark bronze with red and green highlights. The shades are basket-shaped and are frosted amber and clear with a design of leaves and flowers. The condition is very good.

The Lincoln Lighting Company was one of the major lighting fixture manufacturers in the 1920′s and 1930′s and produced a wide range of beautiful, ornate lighting solutions for homes an

d businesses across America.

They produced everything from dramatic dressing room lighting (one boudoir fixture was described as…over half a million tiny translucent beads are used on the outside of the dome light… to give the surface its actually marvelous glow… women invariably go into ecstasies over this dome light…) to more r

elatively staid hall lights, chandeliers, and cozy kitchen lighting. Many of these items were produced in lines or series; the picture above on the left shows another Lincoln product from about the same time as the sconces.

Overall, the Lincoln Company was known for their quality and design, and seemed to target the growing middle class with their price points. According to the forward of the 1927 Lincoln catalog.Lincoln chose its place long ago… There were already fine fixtures being made… and there were cheaper ones… for those who could not afford the fine… Lincoln tackled the job of making fine fixtures for those who could NOT afford them but who wanted them just as greatly, nevertheless. It is interesting to note that the publisher of the 1927 Lincoln catalog, the retail Michigan Chandelier Company, appears to still be in business after all these years.
